Tenochtitlan is an island city with three causeways that offer protection from attacking enemies.  They also required aqueducts to supply fresh water to their city because the lake was salty and undrinkable.

Chinampa’s were floating islands made of reeds, grasses and soil that enabled the Aztecs to grow crops that provided for their large military and growing population. It also provided large qualities of food that was self-sustained, which gave the Aztecs an advantage in regards to production.
