After a long discussion around the impact of the Enlightenment on the French Revolution, we also explored the circle of revolution in France both in 1789 – 1799 and 1830 – 1848. The intent was to reveal how long and complicated revolutions are and that they tend to repeat themselves as people within society shift back and forth between conservative and liberal values. While the pictures are helpful, the dates and impacts are fluid, meaning that we cannot pinpoint the exact place on the conservative/liberal paradigm where a historical event took place because it is simply a moving target.

I have drawn the timeline in two formats, one is a chronological timeline because the students are familiar with this structure as well as a circle to show the repetition in the historical movement in the revolutions.
