Local Mission – YC Alberta

Local Missions: Students will participate in a local service project as part of the course. Previous projects have included downtown missions to serve the homeless. Parent permission forms must be signed and returned to the teacher in order for students to participate. The purpose behind this activity is that students develop Christ’s compassion for the lost and the hurting as well a greater awareness of the social, economic and emotional challenges faced by many who are less fortunate than they.

James 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says”.

 Biblical Interactions: Engaging challenging questions through reading, reflection and practice. The intent is to actively pursue the role of scripture in our lives by connecting how our faith to our actions.

Memory work is also part of the course and must be completed with a minimum of 80% success. Note: students cannot write final exams until they complete the Bible memory component of this course.

  • Students have the option of pursuing a variety of methods to exploring our Biblical engagement with scripture. There will be 5 passages of scripture that will be highlighted over the course and the intent is to explore those in greater
  • In light of traditional forms of memorization, that opportunity is available as one of the opportunities to explore the scripture versus.
  • Why bible memory? Christians believe God uses his Word to produce faith. The purpose of Bible memory is to internalize God’s word.

Romans 10:17 ”Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”

 The Bible Memory/Biblical Interactions is worth 20% of the course.

 Course Evaluation:

Most of the assignments and projects will be graded on quality of research including accuracy and expression of thought. The following are suggested categories for evaluation but may be adjusted as the course proceeds.

  1. Minor Assignments
  2. Major Assignments
  3. Bible Memory/Biblical Interactions
  4. Unit Tests

Late Policy: Assignments must be handed in at the start of class the day they are due. For every day late, a 5% penalty will be deducted, up to five days. After five days, the assignment will be given a zero.

Assignment hand-in procedure:

Google Classroom – we will be using their assignment tasks exclusively within the class. Please speak to your child in regards to handing in the classroom material.
