Social 20

Course Outline

Students will explore the complexities of nationalism in Canadian and international contexts. They will study the origins of nationalism and the influence of nationalism on regional, international and global relations. The infusion of multiple perspectives will allow students to develop understandings of nationalism and how nationalism contributes to the citizenship and identities of peoples in Canada.

If you need any course material, please look at the White Box on the right hand side of the webpage and follow the folder labeled: Social 20. Each issue we discuss in class has the material required for the assignments as well as all the notes.

Social Studies 20 is divided into 4 related issues.

  • Ri1 – Relationship between Nationalism and Identity                 25%
  • Ri2 – Pursuit of National Interests                                            30%
  • Ri3 – Internationalism and Global Affairs                                  30%
  • Ri4 – Canadian National Identity                                              15%

Grade Codes
COM = Complete
INC = Incomplete
NHI = Not Handed In
EX = Exempt

Formative Assessment

Students receive feedback on formative assessments in class. Grades for these assignments in Gradebook are not indicators of correctness but rather level of completion.

NHI – Assignment Left Blank
INC – Partially Complete
1 – Completion/Effort is Minimal
2 – Completion/Effort is Acceptable
3 – Completion/Effort is Excellent
